Are you a charity looking for funding? The D’Oyly Carte Charitable Trust, funds United Kingdom Registered Charities operating in the UK in the fields of the advancement of the arts, health and medical welfare and environmental protection or improvement. The majority of the Trust’s grants are single grants over a one-year period. Occasionally longer-term grants (usually up to 3 years) are agreed by the Trustees when deemed to have particular merit. The Trustees will consider applications for core costs or projects, and they also consider applications for matched funding.

The objects of the charity are the advancement of the arts, health and medical welfare and environmental protection or improvement. The Trust is entirely separate from the objects of The D’Oyly Carte Opera Trust.

Grant

  • At present, the Trust makes grants which are usually in the range £500 – £5,000.
  • The Trustees will consider applications for core costs or projects, and they also consider applications for matched funding.

Eligibility

  • Applicants must be UK Registered, Exempt or Excepted charities Charities, operating in the UK.
  • The organisation’s annual returns to the Charity Commission, the Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator or the Charity Commission for Northern Ireland must be up-to-date.
  • The following may not be funded: Advocacy, Animal welfare, Campaigning or lobbying, Capital projects (unless a specific element falls within the Trust’s remit), Community transport organisations or services, Conferences and Seminars, Counselling and psychotherapy services, Cultural Festivals, Drug abuse or alcoholism rehabilitation, Educational projects linked to the National Curriculum, etc.

Application Process

  • Begin your application online.
  • The following will be needed while filling the application form:
    • Your organisation details including your legal status (i.e. charity commission registration number, company number or charity exempt regulator)
    • The amount you are requesting
    • A contact for this application
    • The purpose of the grant including details of who will benefit, timescale, funds already raised and balance required
    • The UK region it will benefit and which of our funding priorities it applies to
    • Your charitable objects (as stated in your governing document) and charitable activities
    • The names of Trustees or committee members
    • A financial summary of the organisation’s most recent accounts including income and expenditure
    • Declaration of any relationship or connection with any Trustee of The D’Oyly Carte Charitable Trust
    • A Trustee Financial Declaration to be signed by a Trustee of the charity (please see the FAQ page for text)
    • A completed and signed Bank Details Form
    • Confirmation of your charity’s bank account (e.g. a pre-printed paying in slip for your account, a voided cheque or a redacted bank/building society statement)
    • Details of other funders you have approached for this project or application
  • You must post:
    • A signed copy of the Trustee Financial Declaration
    • A completed and signed Bank Details Form
    • Confirmation of your charity’s bank account (e.g. a pre-printed paying in slip for your account, a voided cheque or a redacted bank/building society statement). These should be posted to The D’Oyly Carte Charitable Trust, 6 Trull Farm Buildings, Tetbury, GL8 8SQ, as soon as you have submitted your application
  • You must attach:
    • Your most recent accounts
    • A detailed budget for your project if appropriate
    • A cover letter on the charity’s letterhead which should include clear details of the need the application is intended to meet and how work supported will continue after the Trust’s grant is completed with plans for monitoring and evaluation
  • You may also attach:
    • Additional material you feel will support your application (please do not attach films, these will not be viewed and may result in your application being rejected)
